The shop was the epitome of eccentric curio shops everywhere.

The glitter-shellacked crocodile wearing galoshes and hanging from the ceiling in a deep-sea fishing net hammock was proof enough of that. But there was more.

There was a glass case full of mint-condition collector's plates, one of chipped collection plates, and another with odd sets of engraving plates.
There were shelves of books, only very loosely organized, and there were boxes of albums, both music and photo.

There was an antique incubator table being used to display Fabergé eggs (both real and knockoffs) darning eggs (in a variety of sizes) sugar eggs (the kind with icing panoramas inside) and glass dummy eggs (for broody hens)

The back wall was lined with wardrobes, most of them full, and one that had been used as a set piece and had no back.
There was a rack of swords on one wall, all kinds of styles, some for show and some for use, and there were also knife blocks with an equally varied selection of smaller knives.

There was a jar of glass eyes sitting on the counter in with the row of old-fashioned hard candy jars.
The proprietor was nowhere to be seen, but there was no doubt that he was round, and there was a small 'ring for service' bell on the counter between the candy jars and the antique (and operational) cash register.
